My Favorite VSCode Themes

If I’m looking all day long at the same screen, I better at least like how It looks.

I have basically learned how to code at my university using Kate Editor (yep, the one that came with Ubuntu and had nothing to help you). I’m not that old, Visual Studio, Sublime and Atom were around, but no one told some of my class members (including me). Now that I’m almost graduating, I’m able to say that I tried some code editors and now I’m oficially a “Visual Studio guy”.

To make my review on editors very short: Kate is a better Microsoft’s Notepad, Notepad++ is a complete but yet unnecessary Microsoft’s Notepad, Sublime is decent but is paid so that’s a no for me, VIM is cool If you want to impress someone who does not code, Atom is awesome and open source but kind of laggy, and Visual Studio Community is great, but “freemium” and not “free as in freedom” (wich would be ideal). I mean, technically the free version of Visual Studio is open source, but It’s kind of the base of what should be a “test software” of what is the paid “full software” (under a Professional license). So, there is a catch. I’m not saying Microsoft is evil for no reason, but there is a saying in Portuguese that goes something like “when a handout is too good to be true, a blind men may get distrustful”.

But It’s too late for me to say anything I guess, I just love Visual Studio Community and I’m not changing anytime soon. I’m addicted to extensions that make my life easier (or just prettier, like icon extensions). So, I would like to share some of my favorite Visual Studio Themes. It’s kind of hard to find new themes on Visual Studio itself, so this website helped me a lot.

Visual Studio Theme Pack

This is a basic one honestly. Some kind of “enhancement” for when I’m feeling basic.

OneDark Pro

Makes sense to me sice I used Atom back in the day.

Ballerini Theme

Now this one is just the cutest thing ever. I don’t care if It may look girly, I have used this at work for a couple of months now. Kinda looks like something that would look on my monitor next to a big cup of coffee.

Cyberpunk

A theme that hurts my eyes, but is great for my soul. I don’t like Cyberpunk 2077 that much (yes, I have played the entire thing and I’m still disappointed) but I love the “Cyberpunk aesthetics” and also the original Cyberpunk 2020 lore.

Tokyo Night

Another one of my favorites. Reminds me of the regular Visual Studio theme, but with more blue.

SynthWave ‘84

No need for an explanation. Just a cool vaporwave theme for you Visual Studio. Great If you are taking a picture of your setup for r/battlestations, you’ll be one of the cool kids on Reddit for sure.

2077 theme

Just like the last Cyberpunk theme, but usable If you are okay with “black-background” themes.

Nebula Theme

At last, the one that I used on my laptop a while back. I usually like purple~ish themes that are dark but not completely black. This one fits right in.

Palenight Theme

A more subtle purple theme. Also, It’s made in Nigeria!

Tokyo Night Themes

Has Tokyo in the name, also mentions Gogh's color palettes. So, It can only be good.

I’m always finding new themes, that’s what I do when I’m bored but I have to work. For some reason, looking at a new theme always lights up my mood, I wish that happens to you too!
